Dear friends!

Today I would like to ask a little bit of your help :)

My boyfriend, Pedro (which you can see in some of our youtube videos if you search for TheNatureFreedom), is always working hard to be the best writer he can be :) Lately, he has been given this opportunity to participate in this context where the winner will see his story converted to a short-film! This would be such a great opportunity for Pedro :)) Therefore, I decided to ask you, my dear followers, to vote for him and help him reach this goal!

If you would like to read the story first before making up your mind, here is the english version of it :)

(note: the english version might have some minor mistakes since it still needs some revision, but it is for you to be able to read the text) :)

The lake
Pedro Cipriano

The lake’s surface changed a little. Strange lights, similar to firelies, were cast on the water, but nowhere over the waterline to be seen. As it lasted only a moment, Alice couldn’t be sure if it happened at all.

Until that moment, she couldn’t believe when Eunice told her the lake was magic. In fact, it was the only thing she ever doubt from the long conversations on that bench. However, she was sitting alone on the afternoon, trying to enjoy the exquisite panoramic.

“Honey, the dinner is ready!” called her husband from the entrance.

She looked back and nodded in agreement. Warped in the warm but hastily chosen clothes, she went slowly to the house. Inside her there was an unexplainable happiness, which made her kiss Igor as if she was a sixteen year old girl.

“You look better” he complemented with a smile ”Come, I made your favourite dish.”

Because of the large window, both lake and bench where she usually sit could be seen from the dinning room. They sit, facing each other while eating in silence. The food tasted much better than anything she had eaten in the last few months.

“I’m very happy today and this tasted wonderfully” she announced.

“That is a good sign, I hope you got well soon”

“But sometimes I feel lonely, you know, I miss Eunice”

“Oh honey, don’t think about her now…”

“Sorry, I can’t help it. We used to sit and talk for hours…”

“It’s ok honey, just calm down!” he begged, hugging her for a while.

“Don’t you think the lake is kinda beautiful?” she asked afterwards with a dreamlike voice.

“Yes, it is very beautiful, that is why we are here” he answered with a slightly bored tone.

She understood that it was not be possible to share Eunice’s secret with him. That communication barrier spoiled her happiness.

“Don’t forget your medicines!” Igor reminded her when she got up from the table.

Alice hated that he keep reminding her about the dammed medicaments. However, she went to the pillbox and extracted the night’s dose. She balanced the five coloured pills in her hand. In the spur of the moment, she threw the sleeping pill away. Her dreamless nights were the worst part of it. Despite that, she took the rest and went to the coach, waiting for Igor. He was in the kitchen, washing the dishes.

When she looked to the lake, she saw it again. The sun had set, but the strange lights were reflected on the lake. They were big and so bright that the she thought they came from the lake itself. They seemed to dance with each other. She felt that it was the most beautiful thing she ever saw.

“Alice” she heard a whispering voice calling her.

“Igor? Did you call me?” she asked, looking around.

“No, what happened?” he answered from the kitchen.

“Nothing! Nothing at all, don’t worry!”

She looked back but the lights had vanished. When he came back, they went directly to the room. She changed and got into the bed and he joined her right away. They talked a bit, because the doctor told them to do it often. Usually it worked as predicted, because she felt better.

Soon he was asleep. She was glad for not taking the pill. She thought that she could sleep afterwards if tired, as she was not working any more in that cursed company. She only wanted to be able to dream again.
She look to the ceiling for an indefinite amount of time. Maybe seconds, maybe hours. She got up and Igor woke up.

“What’s up honey?”

“Nothing, I fell thirsty. I’m going for a glass of water”

He seemed happy with the answer, as he turned to the other way and returned to his nightly pleasures. Alice envied his small pieces of happiness. She had never thought about dreams before loosing them.

She was not prepared for what she saw when went out of the room. The colourful lights from the lake were brighter than ever.

“Alice, come to me” she heard once again.

An excitement shiver went down her spine. Without thinking, she left the house in her nightdress. She dashed to the bench.

The temperature had decreased, but a warm felling invaded her. As she approached the water, she understood that those reflections must be from other world. Only the cold water in her feet reminded her that she was barefoot. Without hesitating, she walked to the boat’s bridge.

“Alice, I have waited for you since the moment you were born” the same voice whispered.

The lake’s fireflies moved in the water. They seemed so close, yet so far. She just wanted to hold one of them in her hand. The irresistible attraction got her into the boat. She started to paddle in direction to the centre. It took a great effort to move. Her arms ached and the fingers could barely hold the paddles, however she went on. Finally, she was surrounded by the lights. Alice touched the surface and all disappeared.

“Alice, come to me” insisted the voice.

And the lake was once more better than in a dream. The photoluminescence let her dazed. It is the right time, she thought with a smile, letting the paddle fall.

“Yes Alice, it is the right time. This will be the best moment of your life, I promise”

Alice stood in precarious equilibrium. The moon was not half bright as the moving reflections. She jumped into the lake. The cold water surrounded her completely. She could not swim. She didn’t want to. The lights were brighter and even more beautiful. They moved in strange patterns, adding something never seen before. It was worth to be born just to see this, she realised.

And like Eunice, she drowned.
